September’s Employee Wellness Activities

Walking Wednesdays Are Back!

The Currituck Walking Club is kicking off Walking Wednesdays starting September 17, 2025 at 5:15 p.m. Meet us at the Extension Parking Lot for a brisk evening walk around the complex under the lights (weather permitting).

No registration required — just lace up your sneakers and join us! All walkers are welcome.

For more information, contact Stacey Smith at 252-232-6027 or by email.

Why Walking Works

Walking is one of the easiest ways to add low-impact exercise to your routine. A consistent walking habit not only supports a healthier lifestyle but can also help lower the risk of chronic illnesses like diabetes and heart disease.

Here are a few tips to get the most out of your walks:

  • Set a goal. Aim for distance, pace, or duration. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends 150 minutes of activity each week — about 30 minutes a day, five days a week. If that feels like too much, start with 15 minutes and add 5 minutes each day until you reach your goal.
  • Go at your pace. Progress takes time. Focus on steady, sustainable improvement rather than quick results.
  • Wear the right shoes. Supportive walking shoes make all the difference. Look for features like cushioning, heel support, and space at the toes to keep each step comfortable and reduce strain on your joints.

Write down your goals, put on your best walking shoes, and join us — one step at a time toward better health!
