The Veteran Services Officer (VSO) for Currituck and Camden Counties is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of local veterans and their families by providing compassionate support, accurate guidance, and personalized advocacy. The VSO educates veterans on their benefits, assists with filing claims, and represents them in navigating the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) system. Through community outreach and tailored support, they foster trust, professionalism, and a deep respect for those who have served, ensuring veterans and their families can access the resources they have earned.

Veteran Services Office Duties

• Educate Veterans:
  Provide information about available benefits and services.
• Interpret and Explain Benefits:
  Research, explain, and apply regulations related to veterans’ benefits and services.
• Counsel Veterans and Families:
  Assist veterans and their dependents in applying for benefits such as pension, compensation, medical services, education, and housing loans.
• Assist with Claims:
  Help veterans apply for benefits like disability compensation, pension, and healthcare.
• Submit Applications:
  Prepare and submit claims, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
• Monitor Claims Status:
  Follow up on claims to ensure they are processed correctly.
• Advocate for Veterans:
  Represent veterans with governmental agencies for favorable outcomes.
• Coordinate with Agencies:
  Work with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other organizations to ensure veterans receive proper services.
• Maintain Records:
  Establish and maintain accurate records and reports related to veterans’ claims and services.
• Community Outreach:
  Participate in veteran organizations, public awareness education, home visits, and public speaking events to inform and support veterans.
