Planning & Zoning – Application Submittal Schedule

Applications to be reviewed by the Planning Board, or Board of Commissioners, must adhere to the submittal schedule.

Applications for Major Site Plans, Construction Drawings, and Final Plats may be submitted at any time.

Citizen Self Service

Citizen Self Service is now open to allow the user to apply online and pay for fees with a credit card or echeck.

To access the Citizen Self Service program a username and password is required. If you would like to self register for an account please visit  Currituck County Citizen Self Service online program.

Once you have created your account you will be able to search and view building permits however to use the system for applying for building permits your account needs to be linked by our staff with a Customer ID (CID). You will see a notice when you try to apply for a permit “Contact Us” we will need the following information:

  • User Name
  • First and Last name
  • Company Name
  • Address
  • Phone number

We will set up your account and notify you so you may use the system fully.

Preliminary Plats (Type II) and Special Use Permits are quasi-judicial applications that follow a review path from the submittal date to the Technical Review Committee (TRC) and then the Board of Commissioners (BOC).

Text Amendments, Rezonings, and Development Agreements are legislative applications that follow a review path from the submittal date to the TRC, the Planning Board (PB), and then the BOC.

Note:

  1. All required materials must be received by noon on the application submittal date. Failure to submit all required information, documents, and fees will result in the item being returned to the applicant or carried to the next scheduled meeting.
  2. The dates are subject to change; therefore, it is the responsibility of the applicant to verify dates with the Planning and Inspections Department.
  3. The Planning and Inspections Director may use discretion when scheduling items for the Planning Board and Board of Commissioners’ meetings
