All five members of the Currituck County Board of Elections were sworn into their positions during a ceremony at the Board of Elections office on July 22, 2025. Curtis Shay Ballance, Nancy Bass, Dorothy Johnson, Edward Ponton, and Steven Metcalfe were administered the oath of office by Brandon Johnson, Assistant Clerk of Court in Currituck County.
Kimberly Twine, Director of Elections, and Rebecca Gay, County Manager, opened the ceremony with remarks about the importance of elections and the responsibility accepted by the board members. Bobby Hanig, North Carolina Senator, was also recognized in attendance.
“As Director of Elections, I’m honored to welcome this dedicated group of individuals. Their commitment to serving our voters and upholding the integrity of our electoral process is deeply appreciated. I look forward to working alongside each of them as we prepare for the important elections ahead,” Twine said.
Each member of the Board of Elections will serve a two-year term, from 2025-2027. Ballance will serve as the Board’s Chair and Metcalfe will serve as Secretary. Board meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the election office located at 2795 Caratoke Highway, Currituck, North Carolina, 27929.
