Activities Available at Moyock & Barco Libraries
Genealogy Courses On Demand
Currituck County Libraries offer 6 different Genealogy courses on demand! Hone your genealogy skills at your own pace, at a time that works for you. Each course is a self-paced video, available for individual viewing at the Barco or Moyock Libraries anytime during our normal business hours.
An optional 30-minute question and answer session after course completion with our Genealogy Specialist is also available at the Moyock branch. Appointments for the optional Question & Answer session are recommended to ensure availability.
Course offerings include:
- an Introduction to Genealogy for beginners (with an optional companion paper-based course upon request; this course is also available for checkout on DVD),
- a 4-part series on Currituck County genealogical records
- court records,
- estate & probate,
- land & property,
- vital/other records,
- a Guide to the Formation of Currituck County.
Courses may be taken individually, in any order, or all at once, depending on your needs and level of experience with genealogy research.

Genealogy Kids Kits
Remember to pick up our Genealogy Kid’s Kit! The kit includes:
- a family history booklet,
- family tree charts,
- family member interview questions,
- a family tradition worksheet
- and more.
It’s a great way to encourage children to become their very own future family historians. Bring your completed bingo card back to the library and receive a special surprise!
Giving Back: Valentine’s Day Cards for Seniors
Stop by the Barco or Moyock libraries between Monday, January 9 and Thursday, February 9, 2023 to pick up supplies (construction paper & stickers) to make a Valentine’s Day card for our local seniors.
Cards will be given to seniors in our community. Anyone is welcome to drop cards off at either branch.

Holiday Movie Make and Take
Craft a new ornament based on a famous holiday movie each week! Crafts can be made in the library or at home with your own basic craft supplies. Each craft is available for one week. New material will be available on Monday:

~ December 5, 2022 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas
~ December 12, 2022 – A Charlie Brown Christmas

Book Voyage: Adult Reading Challenge
Beginning Tuesday, January 3, 2023, take a journey around the world from your favorite reading spot. Pick up a map and start your adventure with a little help from our specially curated reading lists.
Read a monthly book from or about a designated region and be entered in the raffle to win quarterly prizes from some of those destinations!
Take Your Child to the Library Month
Each week in February, our littlest patrons can enter a raffle for a cool prize just by coming to the library! We’ll also have some fun in-house activities for kids to complete if they want to earn extra raffle entries.

Wreck the Halls’ Holiday Party
Friday, December 16, 2022 | 3:00-4:00 p.m.
Wreck the halls this December by stomping by the Moyock Library for dinosaur-themed crafts, games, and roaring holiday fun!
Registration is not required to attend this event for children of all ages.

Homeschoolers ages 6 – 12 years old are invited to come learn something new!
We will be studying the world around us through STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) experiments, art, and books.

- Tuesday, February 21, 2023: Show off your artistic talents by creating art for a mini art exhibit at the Moyock Library in March.
- Tuesday, March 21, 2023: Learn about Mary Anning’s contribution to science for Women’s History Month.
Valentine’s Day Event
Monday, February 13, 2023 | 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Create a sand art bracelet and symmetrical hearts to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
