Activities Available at Moyock & Barco Libraries
Genealogy Courses On Demand
Currituck County Libraries offer 6 different Genealogy courses on demand! Hone your genealogy skills at your own pace, at a time that works for you. Each course is a self-paced video, available for individual viewing at the Barco or Moyock Libraries anytime during our normal business hours.
An optional 30-minute question and answer session after course completion with our Genealogy Specialist is also available at the Moyock branch. Appointments for the optional Question & Answer session are recommended to ensure availability.
Course offerings include:
- an Introduction to Genealogy for beginners (with an optional companion paper-based course upon request; this course is also available for checkout on DVD),
- a 4-part series on Currituck County genealogical records
- court records,
- estate & probate,
- land & property,
- vital/other records,
- a Guide to the Formation of Currituck County.
Courses may be taken individually, in any order, or all at once, depending on your needs and level of experience with genealogy research.

Genealogy Kids Kits
Remember to pick up our Genealogy Kid’s Kit! The kit includes:
- a family history booklet,
- family tree charts,
- family member interview questions,
- a family tradition worksheet
- and more.
It’s a great way to encourage children to become their very own future family historians. Bring your completed bingo card back to the library and receive a special surprise!

Animal Shelter Helpers

Representatives of the Currituck County Animal Shelter will visit us to speak about their important role in the community. We will also be collecting item-donations for the shelter at our branch! If you are interested in dropping off an item-donation, please refer to this list provided by the shelter:

Fire Prevention Week

Learn about the importance of firefighters and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) along with how to stay safe in an emergency. Check out a Medical Ambulance Bus and a Fire Command Vehicle with the guidance of special guests from the Currituck County Fire-EMS Department.
Harvest Hullabaloo
Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
School-aged patrons can participate in hauntingly fun games, a pumpkin craft, and activities while enjoying magical snacks! This event will have no tricks, just treats. Come in costume and have a spook-tacular time!

Dementia Friends of North Carolina

Become a Dementia Friend by attending a one-hour informational session to learn about this worldwide movement, about living with dementia, and the simple things you can do to support someone living with the disease.

Biscuits in a Jar
Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Create a special gift to give to a friend or family member by making biscuit mix in a jar with Sheila from Cooperative Extension.

Memorial Garden Dedication
Monday, October 23, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.
The Currituck County Public Library Foundation, the Family of Robbie Harrell, and the staff at Currituck County Public Library will dedicate the new memorial garden planted in memory of Robbie Harrell. Robbie was a former Currituck County resident, a passionate library user, professional florist and master gardener.

A Musical Holiday Make and Take
Available from Tuesday, November 28 – Friday, December 22, 2023
Come in each week to create crafts representing music of the holidays from the Hanukkah song to the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The Corolla Library branch is a small library serving the Corolla beach residents and visitors. The library offers books for patrons of all ages as well as DVD’s and audio books on CD. Computers with internet access, a printer and a fax machine are available. The space includes a children’s area and meeting rooms. Library staff are available to answer questions and provide information on services offered through the library.
