The Currituck County Board of Commissioners shortened the timeframe for requiring a beach parking permit in the off-road area of Corolla. During the board’s February 9, 2026, meeting, commissioners established that beach parking permits will be required from the second Saturday of May until the last Saturday in September for visitors wishing to park a vehicle on the beach strand.

Commissioners maintained the current limit of 300 permits available for sale each week of the effective timeframe. The 2026 beach parking permits  will go on sale beginning April 1, with all sales made online at https://currituckcountync.ticketspice.com/currituck-county-beach-permit.

The change to shorten the season was made following a study of permit sales from previous years. Previously, beach parking permits were required from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October.

Currituck County residents and property owners do not need to purchase a beach parking permit. The Currituck County Access Permit allows them to park on the 4WD beach. Current access permits expire on December 31, 2026.
