The Currituck County Senior Centers; Barco, Knotts Island and Powells Point are places designed to give Senior Adults in Currituck the opportunity to meet other seniors, receive services geared towards seniors and participate in activities that will affirm their dignity and self-worth.
With that in mind each month the staff produces a newsletter to inform citizens of available programs for that month. Please take the time to read what the Senior Centers are doing this month.
When we all work together the senior centers are an “enjoyable and a happy place” for EVERYONE!

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group
The support group meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m.. Meetings take place at the Currituck Senior Center in Barco. The support group is only for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. Parkinson’s Support Group

Spinach & Feta Portobello Mushrooms
Ingredients:
- 4 large portobello mushrooms
- 1/2 cup fresh spinach leaves, chopped
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 clove minced garlic
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.- Mix together spinach, feta and garlic.
- Stuff each mushroom cap with mixture, dividing evenly.
- Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
- Bake on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Tuesday, May 20, 2025 – TRIP & LUNCH- Somerset Place
at 10:00 a.m.! From Somersets earliest days through the end of the Civil War, people of different races, legal and economic status lived on the property. A labor force of almost 200 men, women and children was assembled before 1790. They were black and white, enslaved and free. Over the life of the plantation, three generations of owners, around 50 white employees, two free black employees, and more than 850 enslaved people lived and worked on the plantation.
