Benefits Due at Discharge (BDD) Claim Eligibility
To be eligible for the BDD program, service members MUST meet the following criteria:
- Full-time Active Duty
Service members must be on active duty. - Separation Date
A known separation date is required, and it MUST be within the next 90 to 180 days. - Medical Examinations
Service members MUST be available to attend Veteran Administration (VA) medical examinations for 45 days from the date of claim submission.
The Benefits Due at Discharge program is a time-sensitive process, and to receive benefits within the goal of 60 days following separation, claims MUST be submitted 60 to 180 days prior to separation.
Required Documentation
- Service Treatment Records
Service members MUST provide a digital copy of their service treatment records. - Voided Check
A voided check or direct deposit slip with banking information MUST be provided to submit with the claim. - Health Assessment
If a retirement physical has not been completed, a self-health assessment MUST be completed by the veteran and submitted with their claim.
- Discharge Documentation
If available, the veteran is encouraged to provide a DD214 or DD214 draft.
