Senior Congregate Nutrition and Home Delivered Meals
Congregate
The Currituck County Senior Seniors offer Congregate lunch Monday – Friday at noon at all 3 sites. You must be
- 60+ to participate.
You must sign up the day before no later than 11:30 a.m. to receive lunch the next day. A voluntary donation box is available at each location.
Home Delivered Meals
Currituck County volunteers and staff deliver Meals Monday – Friday to qualified shut-ins throughout the county. To receive home delivered meals:
- You must be 60+
- Live in Currituck County.

Education
Seminars are routinely held at the Center. Topics include:
- Updates on Medicare
- Tax and Estate planning
- Elder Abuse
- Nutrition
- Gardening
- Fraud Prevention
- Home Safety / Self Defense
Health and Wellness
- Health Screenings such as Blood Pressure, Hearing and Vision
- Flu Shots
- Yearly Health & Wellness Fair
- 8- week Tai-Chi for Arthritis class
- Chronic Disease Self-Management (CDMP), Diabetes Self-Management ( DSMP) and Walk with Ease classes
- Monthly Health Presentations by Sentara Living (Fall Prevention, Stroke, Heart Health, Skin Cancer, etc.)
- Stationary Exercise Bike
The Senior Center participates in the Regional Albemarle Senior Games, which consists of nine adjacent counties. Senior Games in our region takes place March through May of each year. Game finalists may also go on to compete in the state games held in Raleigh each year. Games Include:
- Pickle Ball
- Tennis
- Swimming
- Shuffleboard
- Basketball Shooting
- Corn Hole
- Silver Arts
- And much more
Other Programs
Taxes
AARP offers free tax preparation at the senior center in Barco each year by appointment only during the tax season. Free tax preparation is open to the public regardless of age is geared towards low to moderate income taxpayers. Certain filing restrictions apply.
Currituck Cares
The Currituck Senior Centers, Currituck Department of Social Services and the Currituck County Communications department offer a program called Currituck Cares. This program is designed to check on shut –ins each day; 7 days a week by phone.

Operation Fan Heat Relief (OFHR)
The Currituck County Senior Centers and the Currituck Department of Social Services participate in a summer program that provide fans to those in need. This program is made possible through Dominion Resources and the Division of Aging and Adult Services and implemented by the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in our region.
Applicants must:
- Reside in Currituck County
- Adult age 60 or older
- Or disabled
- Must have a home situation where a threat to their well-being exist
Inter-County Public Transportation (ICPTA)
The Currituck County Senior Centers work with Inter-County Public Transportation ( ICPTA) to provide transportation from your home to a senior center. You must be 65+ or disabled to participate without required cost. If you need to arrange transportation to another other location, contact Inter-County Public Transportation directly at 252-338-4480.

Senior Centers have many different opportunities to help give back to the seniors in our community.
