The Currituck County Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group meets on the third Thursday of each month and is open to all county residents. Meetings are held at 10:30 a.m. at the Currituck Senior Center, 130 Community Way, Barco, NC, 27917.

Please register if you would like to attend by calling 800-272-3900 or signing up online at tinyurl.com/caregiverssupportgroup1.

Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups are crucial because they provide a safe space for caregivers to share their experiences and receive emotional support from others who understand the challenges of caring for someone with dementia. Additionally, they benefit from:

  • Shared Knowledge and Coping Strategies – By connecting with other caregivers, individuals can learn practical tips and strategies for managing challenging behaviors, daily routines, and available community services.
  • Reduced Stress and Improved Well-being – Sharing experiences and receiving validation from peers can significantly reduce stress levels and improve overall mental health for caregivers.
  • Sense of Belonging – Being part of a group with shared experiences can combat feelings of isolation and provide a sense of community and belonging.

The group is led by a trained facilitator. Each meeting is a safe space for participants to develop a support system, exchange practical information, talk through issues, learn coping skills, share feelings and concerns, and learn about helpful community resources.
