Come out to the Currituck Regional Airport on Saturday, October 5, 2024 and enjoy THREE special events!

Race on the Runway

A new running event that features  the Tarmac 10K, Flight Deck 5K, and One Mile Taxi Trot. This exciting event takes runners across the airport’s runway and is dog-friendly. Find more information and online registration tarmac10k.comThe 10K will begin at 8:30 am; the 5K at 9:30 am; and the One Mile Taxi Trot begins at 10:00 am.

All proceeds from Race on the Runway will benefit Kids First, Inc., a program in northeastern North Carolina that serves abused and neglected children. Learn more at kidsfirstinc.org.

Planes & Plows

After the Race on the Runway concludes, stick around to enjoy Planes & Plows, a celebration of Currituck County’s heritage. Open from 11:00 am – 5:30 pm, Planes & Plows will feature many agricultural and aviation exhibits, and interactive displays. Children may receive free plane rides, with plane rides for adults at $15. This event will also include live music, food trucks, craft vendors, tractors, airplanes, and much more. A special attraction will be the famous Candy Bomber, an airplane that was used during the Berlin air drops in 1948-1949. The Candy Bomber will be on display throughout the day and will make a candy drop flyover for children during the afternoon.

The College of the Albemarle will have demonstrations and course information available at the Aviation and Technical Training Center, located beside the runway at the event’s entrance. Elizabeth City State University will have its STEM trailer and simulator available for participants also.

Planes & Plows will have free parking and admission for all attendees. Parking will be at the Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center, 107 College Way, Barco, NC 27917.

Sheriff’s Community Night Out

Following Planes & Plows, stick around for the Sheriff’s Community Night Out, beginning at 5:30 pm. Cap off a great day of fun by meeting Sheriff Matt Beickert and other members of the Sheriff’s Office while learning about public safety in Currituck County. Enjoy games, car show, children’s bounce house, vendors, and more. Sheriff’s Office personnel will conduct SWAT airsoft activities and K9 demonstrations.

Community Night Out will also have a Halloween theme, so children can come dressed in costume and receive candy treats.

Bonus:   Stop by the Currituck Animal Shelter in nearby Community Park and receive 50% off pet adoption fees for Saturday, October 5. The Animal Shelter has many friendly cats and dogs that are ready for a good home!
