The N.C. Department of Transportation is asking the public to provide input on what transportation projects they would like to see included in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s next 10-year transportation plan for 2028-2037.
A statewide public comment period to submit project ideas and other feedback will be held from July 28 – August 29, 2025. During this period, the public can provide input on project priorities in a short, interactive survey on the 2028-2037 STIP public input site.
During the comment period, there also will be open houses held at all NCDOT highway division offices. People can drop by and provide input or speak to NCDOT staff about potential projects in their communities.
Projects can be as large-scale as an interstate improvement or as small as a new turn lane or intersection improvement. Projects can be for any mode of transportation, including highways, aviation, bicycle and pedestrian, ferry, public transportation and rail. Please note that the comment period is not for maintenance-related projects such as patching potholes, resurfacing or ditches. NCDOT uses a different method to prioritize maintenance projects.
After all input for potential projects is collected, the list of projects will be finalized. Project scores and a draft Statewide Mobility-funded project list are expected to be released by June 2026. There will be additional opportunities for public comment regarding project priorities in Summer and Fall 2026. The 2028-2037 draft STIP will be released in late winter/early spring 2027, with adoption by the Board of Transportation in the summer.
NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled people who want to participate. Anyone requiring special services can contact Emily Richards at edrichards1@ncdot.gov or 919-707-6014 to make arrangements.
NCDOT will provide interpretive services upon request for persons who do not speak English, or have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English. Requests can be made by calling 1-800-481-6494.
Aquellas personas que no hablan inglés, o tienen limitaciones para leer, hablar o entender inglés, podrían recibir servicios de interpretación si los solicitan antes de la reunión llamando al 1-800-481-6494.
