The November 5, 2024 General Election featured four local races for seats on the Currituck County Board of Commissioners. Voters selected three new members to join the Board and reelected one incumbent.
Commissioner Selina Jarvis was unopposed and won reelection to the District 2 seat. Newcomer Tony Angell was unopposed for the District 1 seat and was elected to his first term on the Board. In the District 4 race, Janet Rose won election to her first term on the Board of Commissioners. Rose did not face an opponent in the General Election, though a number of write-in votes were submitted. In the lone contested race for the Board of Commissioners, Paul O’Neal won election to an At-Large seat by defeating Claywood Wilson, Jr.
The members of the Board of Commissioners will be sworn into office at the December 2, 2024 meeting in the Historic Courthouse.
Other local election contests included the Register of Deeds, which was won by Natalie Twiddy. Three seats on the Board of Education were up for election and won by Emily Crodick (Fruitville Township), Sandi Ayres (Moyock Township), and Jason Banks (At Large). In the contest for Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor, Manly West did not face an opponent and was elected.
The General Election also included a local sales and use tax referendum for Currituck County voters. This referendum was not approved by voters and the local sales tax rate will remain at 6.75%.
