Currituck County officials hosted United States Representative Don Davis for an introductory visit on January 28, 2025. The occasion marked the Congressman’s first official visit to Currituck and provided an opportunity for county officials to discuss issues important to the local community.

Commissioners Paul O’Neal, Selina Jarvis, and Kevin McCord, and County Manager Rebecca Gay met with Rep. Davis at the Public Safety Center in Community Park. The facility provided an excellent setting to share information with Rep. Davis about Currituck’s successful partnership with the College of the Albemarle (COA), which utilizes several classrooms in the building. Rep. Davis toured the Public Safety Center, which includes the emergency operations center, 911 Communications, Sheriff’s Office, offices for Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and offices for partner agencies such as the North Carolina Forest Service.

During a driving tour of Community Park, Regional Aviation and Technical Training Center, and Currituck Regional Airport, Rep. Davis received information about additional partnerships that have a presence on the campus, including the YMCA of South Hampton Roads and Sentara Therapy Center. Commissioners also discussed the county’s budding relationship with Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), which is building a hangar and classroom facility in Currituck’s Commerce Park, adjacent to the airport. ECSU will offer aviation programs to Currituck County residents and enjoy direct access to the airport’s runway.

The commissioners also discussed with Rep. Davis other concerns on the county’s behalf, such as public safety, law enforcement, and the county’s economic tier ranking by the state. Commissioners also emphasized the county’s support for the proposed Mid-Currituck Bridge project.
