The Currituck County Board of Commissioners, on October 28, 2025, selected Troy Breathwaite to fill the District 5 seat while Commissioner Owen Etheridge is on a leave of absence. Breathwaite will be sworn into office at the beginning of the November 3, 2025, Board of Commissioners meeting.
Commissioner Etheridge was approved for a leave of absence by the Board on October 6, 2025. His leave of absence is effective until January 1, 2026. During this time, Breathwaite will serve as a fully active, voting member of the Board.
Breathwaite currently serves on the Board of Adjustment. He will relinquish this position when he officially joins the Board of Commissioners. His experience in working with Currituck County government also includes serving on the steering committee for the Imagine Currituck 2040 Land Use Plan. He has resided in Moyock for 28 years.
