The North Carolina Coastal Counties Fisheries Commission will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in Morehead City, NC. The meeting will begin at 1:00 pm in the Crystal Coast Civic Center, 203 College Circle, Morehead City, 28557.
Currituck County Commissioner Janet Rose will represent the county and local fishing industry. Anyone working in or associated with the commercial fishing industry in Currituck County may contact Rose for more information or to express concerns at janet.rose@currituckcountync.gov or (252) 722-3524.
The commission was established in July following a proposed bill in the General Assembly (House Bill 442) that would have banned shrimp trawling in certain inland waters and coastal areas. The group aims to bring together county leaders from North Carolina’s coastal regions to address critical issues facing the commercial fishing industry. By coordinating the efforts of several counties, the commission can advocate for the long-term health and sustainability of fisheries, local economies, and way of life.
The commission’s first meeting was held on August 5, 2025, and included elected officials or staff from the following counties: Beaufort, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Hertford, Hyde, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington. In addition, several state legislators representing coastal counties attended or sent members of their staff.
