Whether for enjoyment or necessity, foraging for edible plants is a rewarding way to supplement your diet with foods that are both nutritious and flavorful. Participants will learn how to confidently identify, harvest, and utilize a variety of abundant wild edibles found in our area. In addition to edible uses, many of these plants also offer valuable health benefits, allowing you to incorporate both nourishing foods and simple, natural remedies into your daily life.

The esteemed Vickie Shufer will present “Forager’s Garden: Growing Wild Edibles”, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center, located at 120 Community Way, Barco, North Carolina 27917. She is an herbalist and naturalist with a Master’s Degree in therapeutic herbalism. She owns and manages a native nursery, Wild Woods Farm, where she teaches classes on foraging, medicinal, edible, and native plants, and more! Vickie is the author of The Everything Guide to Foraging and numerous articles and publications. She was also the editor/publisher of The Wild Foods Forum newsletter from 1994 to 2014.
