What if an evacuation is ordered and I cannot find my re-entry permit?
Currituck County Access Permits are designated re-entry permits for Currituck County residents and property owners. Two (2) decals are mailed to county and non-resident property owners every 2 years.
If you have misplaced your permit, proof of residency or ownership with a Currituck County address will be required to allow you access to your property.
Examples of acceptable documentation:
- Valid Driver’s license with a Currituck County address
- Current Tax bill
- Current utility bill
- Current long term rental agreement/lease

How do I obtain a business re-entry permit?
Business re-entry permits are issued by the Emergency Management Office.
Complete a Business Re-Entry Permit Application to obtain a permit or call 252-232-2115 for more information.

The easiest way to sign up for Currituck Alert, the county’s emergency notification system, is to text your zip code to 888-777. You will automatically receive notifications issued for your area via text message.

Where are the emergency shelters in Currituck County located?
Currituck County does not open pre-storm shelters. If necessary, Currituck County will coordinate with an inland county to provide a host shelter.

When will I be able to get to my vacation rental following a hurricane?
The County will begin to assess damages as soon as the storm has passed. A phased re-entry will be used to facilitate an orderly re-entry to the Currituck Outer Banks.
