Yes, the caller’s telephone number and address is displayed on a screen for the telecommunicator. This information must ALWAYS be confirmed. Exception: caller information is not available when the call comes from a cellular phone.
Why am I asked so many questions when I call for an ambulance?
Currituck County utilizes the Emergency Medical Dispatching program. This program requires the dispatcher to ask a series of medical questions in order to determine the severity of the medical condition. Based on your answers, the proper level of care and response code are determined.
Most importantly, the dispatcher is able to provide the caller with needed medical instructions such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or other critical pre arrival instructions. This way, the caller is able to provide pre arrival care until the ambulance crew arrives.
