Looking for some part-time hours working with an amazing team? The Currituck Department of Travel & Tourismneeds you! We are currently seeking team members for the Whalehead and the Currituck Maritime Museum to assist our visitors as they tour these historic facilities. We especially have a need for the weekends.
Museum hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. Weekend hours for these facilities will run from the first Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October.
These positions are a great way learn more about Currituck history while meeting and assisting our many visitors during the vacation season.
The Corolla Visitors Center is also seeking some team members for the weekdays and weekends to assist our visitors learn more about our destination and what they can do on their vacation.

Mark your calendars for an unforgettable evening on Friday, December 6, 2024 as the 31st Annual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting celebration returns! Join us for a festive night filled with family fun, lights, and music as we celebrate the holiday season.
Parade viewing will be available throughout the Currituck Community Park in Barco, but the Tree Lighting and Cookies and Cocoa will take place at the Currituck Extension Center at 120 Community Way.

Official Festivities Begin at 6:00 p.m.
The evening officially kicks off with the always popular Reindeer Games at 6:00 p.m.. Families and kids can enjoy holiday-themed activities, visit the food trucks, and warm up with cookies and cocoa to get in the spirit of the season. (If you wish to visit with Santa, we hear he will be visiting the YMCA starting at 5:00 p.m.!)
At 6:50 p.m., gather around for the Grand Tree Lighting ceremony in the courtyard between the Currituck Extension Center and the YMCA. Watch as the beautiful lights bring our holiday tree to life, setting the stage for the evening’s main event: the holiday parade.

The excitement continues as the holiday parade begins at 7:00 p.m.. Enjoy a lineup of festive floats, colorful costumes, lively music, and dazzling lights as we kick off the holiday season together. This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Around the World”.

Youth Holiday Ornament Design Contest
In conjunction with the 31stAnnual Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Celebration, we’re thrilled to announce the Holiday Ornament Design Contestfor young artists in the community! This year’s theme is “Christmas Around the World,”honoring holiday traditions from various cultures while showcasing the spirit and pride of Currituck County.
There will be winners in each age group and the top design overall will be recognized as theOfficial Currituck County Holiday Ornament for 2024. Winners will be announced and featured at our Annual Holiday Tree Lighting!
The winning design will be used to create an ornament that will be available for purchase online, with all proceeds supporting the Backpacks for Kids Weekend Feeding Program—an initiative that helps provide local children with nutritious food throughout the year.
Celebrate the joy of “Christmas Around the World in Currituck County” and share in the creativity of our young artists as we prepare for a festive season!

The team at 911 Communications provide vital, life-saving services for the public and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This short video provides some insight into what it means to be a 911 telecommunicator for Currituck County.
Currituck County Emergency Management is pleased to launch www.SafeCorolla.com, a one-stop site for local beach conditions and safety information. Currituck County includes 24 miles of oceanfront beaches and SafeCorolla.com will provide county residents and vacationers with important real-time data to help them plan their beach visit.
SafeCorolla.com is a mobile and tablet friendly site. Users can easily navigate different sections by clicking on the individual “headers” near the top of the page. The webpage provides information on current weather forecasts, beach conditions, rip currents, locations for public beach access, locations of lifeguard stands, beach regulations, and more.
As part of the SafeCorolla program, residents and guests may also receive notifications directly to their phone by texting SafeCorolla to 888-777. For more information on SafeCorolla.com, contact Currituck Emergency Management at 252-232-2115.
Currituck County is looking for two (2) citizens who resides on the Currituck Outer Banks that are willing to serve their community by participating on the Wild Horse Advisory Board. If you are interested submit a Statement of Interest online to be considered by the Currituck County Board of Commissioners.
The wild horses are an integral part of the history and tradition of the Currituck Outer Banks and are culturally and economically significant to the County of Currituck.
The Wild Horse Advisory Board is committed to managing the wild horse population in a manner that establishes a sustainable equilibrium between the wild horse population, development, wildlife, and the environment.
The Currituck County Wild Horse Advisory Board is composed of 6 voting members:
One member from North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve
Currituck County Manager or designee
United States Fish & Wildlife Service, Currituck National Wildlife Refuge Manager or designee
Two at large members who reside on the Currituck Outer Banks appointed by the Currituck County Board of Commissioners
The Currituck County Wild Horse Advisory Board typically holds quarterly meetings on the third Thursday of February, May, August and November at 1:00 p.m. in the Currituck County Historic Courthouse Conference room.
Currituck Senior Nutrition will resume to 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) starting Wednesday, June 1, 2022. With a significant loss in volunteers due to the impacts of COVID over the last 2 years, we are left with a HUGE hole that we need your help to fill. Volunteers are crucial to the success of the Home Delivered meals program and we cannot do it without YOU!
You can volunteer as little or as much as your want. Don’t want to commit to a certain day and time? No problem – be an alternate and volunteer when it’s the right time for you. The average time it takes to deliver a meal is 1 hour, unless you become attached…then it may take a little longer!
