During a special meeting on May 1, 2026, the Currituck County Board of Commissioners approved an extension for a leave of absence for Commissioner J. Owen Etheridge. The leave of absence is now effective until December 7, 2026.
Commissioner Troy Breathwaite will continue to fill the District 5 seat on the Board while Etheridge is on leave. Breathwaite was appointed by the Board on October 28, 2025, to serve as a replacement for Etheridge.
