Longtime employee and Currituck County native Jennie Turner was promoted to the position of Director of Planning and Inspections on April 1, 2026. Turner has served in the Planning and Inspections Department since 2009.

“Jennie is deeply committed to her profession and Currituck County. I am confident that she will lead the Planning and Inspections team in the continued tradition of customer-focused and solution-oriented services,” said Currituck County Manager Rebecca Gay.

Turner began her career with Currituck County in August 2009 as a Code Enforcement & CAMA Local Permit Officer stationed in the Corolla satellite office. She advanced to Planner I in 2012, Planner II in 2016, and Senior Planner in 2021. In 2024, she was promoted to Assistant Planning Director under former Director Bill Newns, who retired on March 31, 2026.

She will now lead a department that includes eight Planning staff members, six Inspections staff, seven Permit staff, and two Code Enforcement officers.

Our team is committed to providing excellent customer service, improving processes, and exploring innovative options and best practices to support thoughtful, sustainable development throughout the county,” said Turner.

Turner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from North Carolina State University. She is a Certified Floodplain Manager and a member of the North Carolina Association of Floodplain Managers.
