The Department of Social Services (DSS) will host the 2025 Operation Santa Claus program to help provide Christmas gifts to families with children residing in Currituck County and to the county’s children in foster care. Operation Santa Claus also provides food baskets to local senior citizens.
Applying for Assistance
Applications by families who would like to request assistance will be accepted from October 20 to November 26, 2025. Applications are available at the DSS office, which is located at 2793 Caratoke Hwy., Currituck, NC, 27929. Anyone with questions may contact the DSS office at 252-232-3083.
Making a Donation
Social Services asks that individuals, businesses, and community groups consider supporting Operation Santa Claus by making donations to the program. All donations are tax deductible and can be made in the following ways:
(1) Sponsor a family with children by purchasing new, unwrapped gifts for the children.
(2) Donate money or gift cards to be used by DSS staff to purchase Christmas gifts for children. Donations can be made as follows:

- By mail to Social Services, 153 Courthouse Road, Suite 400, Currituck, NC, 27929. Please make checks payable to “County of Currituck”
(3) Referral Organizations – If you are an organization and operate and manage your own Christmas assistance program, you can receive referrals from us to help children in need through your own program. (4) Food Basket Program for Adults – You can help by donating food, money, or gift cards to the Food Basket program which serves disabled and elderly adults in need of extra support. We also accept monetary donations to purchase Christmas gifts for disabled adults experiencing guardianship. Monetary donations for this program can only be made in person or by mail.
