The Currituck County Board of Commissioners, on October 6, 2025, approved a leave of absence for Commissioner J. Owen Etheridge. Commissioner Etheridge, who represents District 5, requested the leave of absence due to health reasons. The leave of absence is effective until January 1, 2026.

Chairman of the Board Paul O’Neal shared the sentiments of the Board of Commissioners, “Owen has served this county for many years and has always had a heart for the county and its people. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his return.”

The Board of Commissioners will appoint a temporary replacement for Commissioner Etheridge and intends to have the member seated at the November 3, 2025, meeting.
