The Currituck County Youth Public Safety Summer Camp returns this July, offering an exciting, hands-on experience for local youth ages 10–15. Held from Monday, July 21 – Friday, 25, 2025, the camp is designed to introduce participants to the world of public safety while building leadership, teamwork, and community pride.

Campers will engage directly with law enforcement officers, firefighters, Emergency Medical Technician (EMTs), telecommunicators, and other public safety professionals through interactive activities and real-world simulations. Campers will:

  • Tour the 911 Communications Center
  • Observing emergency dispatch procedures
  • Exploring mock crime scene investigations
  • Learning Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid
  • Practicing fire safety and rescue techniques

Throughout the week,  participants will develop problem-solving and communication skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the vital roles public safety professionals play in our community.

This program helps build connections between youth and local first responders, encouraging mutual respect, civic responsibility, and future leadership.

  • Currituck County Fire-EMS
  • Currituck County Sheriff’s Office
  • Currituck County Emergency Management
  • Currituck County 911 Communications Center

Program Goals

The Currituck County Youth Public Safety Summer Camp is designed to empower young people by helping them build essential life skills and foster trust in public safety professionals. The camp promotes teamwork, resilience, and leadership, while also supporting the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of each participant.

Throughout the week, campers will learn valuable, real-world safety skills, including:

  • CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use
  • Basic First Aid
  • Bleeding control
  • Fire extinguisher operation
  • Home emergency preparedness
  • And much more

These experiences aim to equip youth with practical tools they can use both during camp and in everyday life.

Eligibility Criteria & Selection Process

Youth ages 10–15 who live in Currituck County are eligible to apply. Applicants from other counties may also be considered, depending on space and the number of local applications received (priority is given to Currituck County residents).

Applications open in June and MUST be submitted online.

The selection process is managed by camp staff and School Resource Officers (SROs) from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office. Because SROs work closely with local youth throughout the year, they bring valuable insight into each applicant’s behavior, character, and leadership potential.

Final selections will be made by Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Spaces are limited—don’t miss this opportunity to learn, lead, and make a difference in Currituck County!
