Did You Know…
Opioid Among the Elderly

The opioid crisis has significantly impacted the elderly population, with a notable increase in opioid misuse and related harms. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that people over 60 are the largest users of prescription opioids in the United States,  with women outpacing men. The toll of opioid use disorder in adults 65 and older has more than tripled between 2013 and 2018, while opioid-related deaths among Americans 55 and older have increased nearly 19-fold between 1999 and 2019. This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for targeted intervention and services to address the opioid crisis among older adults.  (Northwestern University)

Currituck County now has a Opioid Program Coordinator. For more information contact Angela Lottman 252-273-9632.
