The Currituck County Senior Centers; Barco, Knotts Island and Powells Point are places designed to give Senior Adults in Currituck the opportunity to meet other seniors, receive services geared towards seniors and participate in activities that will affirm their dignity and self-worth.

With that in mind each month the staff produces a newsletter to inform citizens of available programs for that month. Please take the time to read what the Senior Centers are doing this month.

When we all work together the senior centers are an “enjoyable and a happy place” for EVERYONE!

FREE AARP Tax Preparation
Partial clock that says "Tax Time"A limited number of tax preparation appointments are still available for March. Please note that walk-ins are not accepted. Tax preparation services will be offered on Thursdays, February 5 through April 2, 2026.

Eligibility Requirements
Due to limited appointment availability, services are available to Currituck County residents ONLY. Tax preparation is intended for low- to moderate-income individuals, and certain filing restrictions apply.

Open to All Ages
Tax preparation services are open to the public regardless of age.

What is the NC Registry for Brain Health?
The Registry is a group of people across North Carolina interested in news and research to improve brain health and advance the treatment of dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders.

What Happens After You Join?

Tuesday, February 17, 2026 – TRIP & LUNCH – Lunch & Demo at “Dumar’s”
in Norfolk at 9:45 a.m.! The next stop in our Diner’s, Drive in’s & Dive’s series! Over the past 100 years Dumar’s has become a Hampton Roads historic landmark, known for its friendly staff, delicious food, fun atmosphere, and of course, inventing the worlds first waffle cone! Enjoy lunch, followed by a demo of their historic ice cream machine and the history of Dumars.

Cost: money for lunch and ice cream!

Friday, February 27, 2026 – TRIP – Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival
in Hampton at 10:30 a.m.. The 35th annual Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival  (MAQF) will feature everything for quilt, fiber, wearable & textile artist, and home sewers. In addition, MAQF will present the finest collection of quilt, garment, and fiber art exhibitions including quilt and wearable art prize money competitions. Rounding out the event will be workshops and lectures presented by leading instructors along with demonstrations throughout the venue.

Cost: Admission $20 (pay there) and money for a grab and go lunch from chick-fil-a.

Cooking with Latesa…

Chicken & Herb Stuffing Bake

Ingredients:

  • 1 package. Perdue Short Cuts Roasted Strips
  • 1 package (6 ounce) low sodium herb seasoned stuffing mix
  • 1 1/4 cups water, heated to boiling
  • 8 ounce (about 2cups) frozen broccoli, thawed
  • 1 can (10.75 ounce) condensed 98% fat free cream of chicken soup

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Combine stuffing mix, contents of seasoning package with boiling water in a large bowl until blended.
  • Stir in chicken, broccoli and soup.
  • Spoon mixture into a greased 9×13 baking dish.
  • Cover and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Uncover and bake 5-10 minutes more until heated.
