Currituck County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports recently from citizens concerned about potential scams. In these cases, individuals have been contacted by someone claiming to be a member of the Sheriff’s Office, demanding money for supposed arrest warrants, child support warrants, or other official matters.
The Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call and threaten arrest, claim you missed jury duty, or demand payment over the phone. They will not request fines, fees, or bail money through Bitcoin, gift cards, wire transfers, or any other form of electronic or monetary payment.
You should also never provide personal information over the phone to verify your identity, such as your Social Security number, date of birth, or bank account details. Legitimate law enforcement agencies will not ask for that information by phone.
If you receive such a call, hang up immediately. These calls are FRAUDULENT and are attempts to obtain money or personal information under false pretenses.
If you have any doubts or questions about a call, do not use any number provided by the caller. Contact the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office directly using their official phone number 252-453-8204 or the 24-hour non-emergency number 252-453-3633.
