The annual volunteer banquet hosted by the Currituck County Senior Services Department, held on September 5, 2025, recognized many volunteers for their outstanding contributions to the department and community. Volunteers play an important role in helping the department provide programs and services to local senior citizens and the banquet celebrated their successes during the past year.

From July 2024 to June 2025, 134 volunteers provided more than 3,419 hours of their time to help with Senior Services programs. Volunteers assist with programs and special events offered at the county’s three senior center facilities and participate in services such as the home delivered meals program, AARP Tax Preparation, and Bell Choir. Examples of these volunteer contributions include:

  • In the Home Delivered Meals program, volunteers spent 2,886 hours delivering 10,496 meals to senior citizens throughout the county from July 2024 to June 2025.
  • The AARP Tax Preparation service assisted 218 Currituck County residents in filing tax returns, saving them an estimated total of $47,960.
  • The Bell Choir rehearsed and performed for an estimated 161 hours from July 2024 to June 2025.

During the banquet, the county presented four Volunteer of the Year awards and two Special Volunteer Service awards. These included the following:
