Currituck County is under a Winter Storm Warning, issued by the National Weather Service. There is potential for heavy snowfall beginning late tonight and lasting through Sunday, February 2, accompanied by extremely cold temperatures. Strong, damaging winds are possible, especially along the coast, reducing visibility and creating blizzard-like conditions. Coastal flooding is likely Saturday night into Sunday with higher tides and possible beach erosion. The 4WD area in Corolla will likely become impassable in the hours before and after high tide.
County residents are advised to make preparations, adjust travel plans, and secure loose outdoor items. Charge devices and make sure your emergency safety kit is ready. Generators should be fueled and tested before the storm arrives. Remember to bring pets inside during the storm.
Customers of NC Dominion Energy may report power outages and downed power lines to 1-866-366-4357.
