Make plans to attend Currituck County’s first “Walk Against Addiction” on Saturday, January 3, 2026, to promote hope, reduce stigma, and support local citizens and families who are impacted by substance abuse. This special event will be held indoors at the Currituck YMCA from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.
A resource fair with a large number of vendors will be on site to connect attendees with helpful organizations and services. Scheduled vendors include Beloved Haven, My Epic Project, Lovin’ Paws, Alcoholics Anonymous, Albemarle Regional Health Services, United Way, Oxford House, NAMI, Peaceful Waters, New Life Church, Trillium, Crossroads, Powells Point Christian Church, Currituck YMCA, The 12 Outlaw Faith, Changing Tides, and the Currituck County Veteran Services Officer.
The Walk Against Addiction will also include opening remarks from Robert P. Trivette, Chief District Court Judge, 1st Judicial District, North Carolina, and powerful, personal recovery stories from local individuals. A special skit addressing the impact of the stigma of substance abuse will also be performed. For the walk, participants will use the indoor track located at the Currituck YMCA.
Brenda Thacker, a Currituck County resident who has led 16 similar walks in Dare County, is helping organize this event with sponsorship by Anderson’s Heating and Cooling. For additional sponsorship opportunities, businesses may contact her at 252-202-1110.
