The Currituck County Youth Public Safety Summer Camp returns in 2026, offering an engaging and immersive experience for youth ages 10–15 in Currituck County. Following the success and high number of applications in 2025, the program will expand to include two sessions in 2026. The first camp will run June 15–19, and the second will take place July 13–17.
This unique, week-long program is designed to introduce participants to public safety careers while building leadership skills and a strong sense of community responsibility. Campers will interact with:
- Local law enforcement officers,
- Firefighters,
- Emergency medical technicians,
- Telecommunicators,
- And other public safety professionals
through hands-on activities, workshops, and simulations.
Participants will tour the 911 Communications Center, learn about dispatch procedures, explore crime scene investigations, practice CPR techniques, and gain knowledge of fire safety protocols. These experiences provide valuable insight into the vital roles public safety professionals play in protecting our communities.
Beyond technical training, the camp emphasizes teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Through interactive sessions and group projects, campers will develop confidence, civic pride, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their neighborhoods.

Program Goals
The purpose of the summer camp is to empower youth in our community by building lifelong skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience, while strengthening trust in public safety services. The camp also supports the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of participants, providing them with the tools they need to succeed during camp and beyond.
Through hands-on training, campers will learn essential life-saving skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, First Aid, bleeding control, fire extinguisher operation, home preparedness, and more—helping them feel confident, capable, and prepared for real-life situations.
Eligibility Criteria & Selection Process
Youth ages 10–15 who reside in Currituck County are eligible to apply. Applicants from other counties may also be considered if space is available, with priority given to local residents.
Applications MUST be submitted through this online platform and include general information such as:
- Demographics,
- School details,
- Medical history and allergies,
- Liability waivers,
- Media release forms,
- T-shirt size.
The selection process is conducted by camp staff and counselors, including School Resource Officers from the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office and other camp personnel. These officers work closely with youth throughout the school year and are familiar with students’ behavior, character, and potential, allowing them to provide valuable insight during the review process.
All applications will be reviewed, and selected participants will be notified by Sunday, May 10, 2026.
