September 29 – All storm water pumping operations in Corolla have ended.
September 27 – Currituck County will continue storm water pumping in Corolla on Friday, September 27. Pumps will remain in place in case of additional rain today and conditions will be reassessed on Saturday morning. Pumps are located at the following sites and will run as needed throughout the day:
- Ocean Sands Section O
- Ocean Sands Section F
- Crown Point
The pumps in the Swan Beach 4WD area are being removed today.
September 24 – 26 – Currituck County will continue storm water pumping in Corolla at the following locations:
- Ocean Sands Section O
- Ocean Sands Section F
- Crown Point
- In the Swan Beach 4WD area
Citizens should use caution near pumping equipment and avoid the discharge water at all outfall locations on the beach. Motorists should be aware that the 4WD beach may be impassable for the time period of 2 hours before high tide until 2 hours after high tide. September 23 – Currituck County continues its storm water pumping operation in Corolla on Monday, September 23, 2024. Pumping is ongoing at the following locations:
- Ocean Sands Section O (2 pumps)
- Ocean Sands Section F (1 pump)
- Crown Point (1 pump)
- In the 4WD area on Sandpiper Rd., just north of the Laughing Gull house. (1 pump)

September 22 update -Currituck County will continue storm water pumping operations in Corolla tonight. Pumps remain in place at the following locations:
- Ocean Sands Section O (2 pumps) – continuing to pump.
- Ocean Sands Section F (1 pump) – continuing to pump.
- Crown Point (1 pump). This location has shown improvement and will be pumped as necessary.
Pumping has begun at a new location in the 4WD area on Sandpiper Rd., just north of the Laughing Gull house.

Pumping will resume at Sea Oats Court in Ocean Sands Section F today.
Pumping operations at MP 17 in the Swan Beach 4WD area were completed this morning.
September 21, 4:00 pm – Currituck County continues to operate storm water pumps in Corolla to alleviate localized flooding.
- A second pump will be added to operations in Ocean Sands at Pampas Court. The discharge site is located off Tide Arch.
- Pumping at Sea Oats Court in Ocean Sands Section F will not continue at this time.
- Pumping will continue at Crown Point.
Pumping has started in the Swan Beach 4WD area. The outfall location is located on the beach at mile post 17.
Citizens are advised to use caution near the pumping operations. Swimming or surfing near the outfall sites on the beach is not advised and children should not be allowed to play in the discharge water.
Motorists are advised that the 4WD beach may be impassable in the 2 hours before and after high tide.
September 21 – Currituck County continues to operate three pumps in Corolla, located in Ocean Sands North and Crown Point.
Citizens should be avoid water discharge sites on the beach. These are located at Crown Point Circle in the Crown Point community and Ocean Front Arch and Sea Oats Court in Ocean Sands. NC Department of Environmental Quality issued precautionary surfing and swimming advisories for the ocean in the vicinity of discharge sites.
Currituck received permission from NCDEQ to pump storm water in the Swan Beach 4WD area. A discharge site on the beach will be located at mile post 17. Citizens should use caution and avoid the water outfall at this location.
Motorists on the 4WD beach should be aware that the beach road may be impassable for the time period of 2 hours before high tide until 2 hours after high tide. Motorists should use caution. Tide information is available at https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/.
September 20 – Currituck County began storm water pumping operations in the Ocean Sands North and Crown Point communities of Corolla. At this time, two pumps are operating and a third is being set up. The pumps will continue working through the weekend to remove storm water through designated emergency outfall pipes at the beach. Citizens are advised to use caution in these areas and not allow children near the outfall pipes.
All motorists should use caution when traveling in Corolla and the 4WD off-road area. Be aware of possible flooding over roadways and do not attempt to drive on flooded roads.
Anyone traveling on the 4WD beach should only do so at low tide. The beach road will likely be impassable during high tide. Several roads in the 4WD area behind the dunes have significant flooding and may be impassable.
Visitors who are coming into Currituck County should contact their rental agency for an update on conditions regarding flooding and access to rental homes.
