Corolla projects improve water system and beach walkovers

Citizens should be aware of two county improvement projects underway in Corolla. Be alert to possible traffic delays, construction equipment and work crews in the area, and use caution.

Raw Water Main:   Currituck County is upgrading its raw water main line that serves the reverse osmosis water treatment plant.  This involves installing a new 16” water main pipe to provide additional flow from the county wells to the Southern Outer Banks Water Plant.  The project area will be located within the NC DOT right of way of NC Hwy 12 and Albacore Street starting at the water plant at 734 Ocean Trail. It will run along the east side of NC Hwy 12 to Albacore Street and then along the south side of Albacore Street to Corolla Drive.  The project is due to be completed by May 2021.

Whalehead Public Beach Access Walkovers:  Replacement of three walkovers is underway These are located at Barracuda, Perch, and Sailfish streets. All are temporarily closed during construction.  This is Phase I of a multi-year project to replace 13 public access walkovers due to age and deterioration. The work is scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day.
