To be eligible to vote, you must:
- be a citizen of the United States;
- be a resident of North Carolina and Currituck County for the 30 days prior to an election;
- be at least 18 years of age by the next general election;
- not be registered to vote in any other county or state;
- if convicted of a felony, have had your citizenship rights restored.
Deadlines To Register To Vote
The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina and Currituck County is 25 days before the day of the election.
Forms must be received in the Elections office or postmarked by the deadline to be accepted. Agency and North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle registration transactions that are completed by the deadline are also valid.
Each voter will be sent a voter card showing their assigned precinct.

You may also, register at the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office when conducting official DMV business, or at any state agency when applying for or receiving benefits.
Currituck County has a permanent and continuous registration. If you:
- move,
- change your name,
- or desire to change your party affiliation,
you must make these changes no later than 25 days before an election. If you move to another county in North Carolina, you must register in that county.
